Frequently Asked Questions
- Who may not qualify for representation?
Every matter is evaluated individually by the Firm. While each situation is different, the Firm generally may not be able to accept matters where:
- The client is already represented by another attorney or actively involved in litigation regarding the solar matter;
- The client reports that the system is performing as promised, is generating the expected savings, and no legal or contractual concerns exist;
- The client is currently involved in bankruptcy proceedings or is seriously contemplating bankruptcy due to their overall financial picture;
- Based on the information provided, the attorneys determine there is not a sufficient legal basis to pursue representation; or
- Your solar is financed through Affirm.
Every matter is reviewed on its own facts, and the final decision regarding representation is made by the Firm’s attorneys.
- How many people have you helped get out of their contract?
Consumer Advocacy Law Group has represented hundreds of homeowners in residential solar disputes and continues to represent thousands of clients nationwide. Every matter is different, and each client’s situation is evaluated individually by the Firm’s attorneys. The firm has obtained favorable resolutions for its clients and currently has thousands of cases in the pipeline in various stages of resolution.
- How do you cancel solar contracts?
Every matter is different. Depending on the client’s circumstances, the attorneys may pursue negotiated resolutions, arbitration, or other legal remedies they believe are appropriate after reviewing the facts and applicable law.
- What is arbitration?
Arbitration is a private method of resolving disputes outside of court. Instead of a judge, a neutral third party called an arbitrator reviews the evidence presented by both sides and issues a decision. Many residential solar contracts require disputes to be resolved through arbitration may, depending on the matter, proceed more quickly and may be less costly than traditional court proceedings. Your attorney will explain how arbitration applies to your particular contract and circumstances.
- How do I get money back?
Whenever it’s possible, meaning the legal strategy is supported by your specific facts and the applicable law, the Firm may pursue a monetary recovery. Remember every matter is different, and no recovery can be guaranteed. If a monetary recovery is obtained, any applicable contingency or success-based fee will be governed by our attorney-client fee agreement which says 25% to the firm and 75% to you.
- How long has the firm been around?
Consumer Advocacy Law Group has been representing clients for more than seven years
- What if I already sold my home?
Whether the Firm can assist depends on the circumstances of the sale and whether you still have obligations under the solar financing or purchase agreement. The attorneys will review your situation to determine whether the Firm can represent you. Generally if you don’t own the solar system anymore, we cannot take your case.
- How do you determine the attorney fee?
The Firm offers a fixed-fee structure based on factors such as the complexity of the matter and the nature of the solar financing involved. The goal is to provide clients with predictable legal fees rather than billing by the hour like other attorneys.
- How will I know when my case is resolved?
The Firm will notify you when your matter has been resolved and will provide any appropriate settlement documents, arbitration decisions, or other final paperwork, as applicable.
- What if the solar company filed bankruptcy?
A bankruptcy filing does not automatically prevent the Firm from reviewing your matter. The attorneys will evaluate how a bankruptcy may affect your legal options based on your individual circumstances.
- Who will give me my strategy for my case?
Your attorney at Consumer Advocacy Law Group will evaluate your matter and develop the legal strategy they believe is most appropriate based on your individual circumstances…
- When do I get an attorney?
If the Firm accepts your matter and you decide to move forward with representation, you’ll enter into an attorney-client relationship under the terms of your fee agreement. Your attorney and the Client Services team will then guide you through the next steps in the process.
- Do I have any other fees that I have to pay?
Your attorney-client fee agreement explains the fees associated with your representation. If you have questions about fees or costs, we’re happy to review those provisions with you.
- Can they come after my assets?
It’s possible. The potential consequences of default depend on your contract, applicable law, and your individual circumstances. Your attorney will review those issues with you and explain any potential risks.
- Will I get back what I paid into my solar contract?
It’s possible, but don’t plan on that. Depending on the facts of your matter, the attorneys may seek monetary recovery as part of the overall legal strategy. However, every case is different, and no recovery can be guaranteed.
