Scott has an extensive educational background, earning a B.S. in biology from Union College in Schenectady, New York, and a master’s degree in forensic sciences from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., before receiving his law degree from The Catholic University Columbus School of Law in Washington, D.C.
Scott began his career litigating personal injury cases and then changed his focus to disability and life insurance benefits litigation. Scott worked for several law firms prior to founding Elkind & Shea in Silver Spring, Maryland, where he served as Managing Partner for 18 years. Scott won several major disability benefit court decisions in addition to establishing discovery rights under federal law for private-sector, employer-sponsored retirement and health plans for the jurisdictions in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
Prior to joining the Consumer Law Advocacy Group as its Chief Litigation Strategist, Scott continued his work in the disability benefits field while also serving as a federal arbiter for insurance claims.
Scott is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and an inactive member of the Maryland State Bar Association. Scott also is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the U.S. Supreme Court Bar, and other courts.
